RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday clarified that recent remarks made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur regarding the Kalabagh Dam do not represent the party’s official position.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, speaking to the media outside an Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, said Gandapur’s comments were his personal views. He emphasized that the construction of Kalabagh Dam has long been opposed by both Sindh and KP, stressing that “any project rejected by two provinces cannot serve the federation’s interests.”
Raja reiterated that no national project of such magnitude could move forward without consensus and political harmony among all stakeholders.
Earlier, Gandapur had publicly expressed strong support for the construction of Kalabagh Dam, describing it as crucial for Pakistan’s future water and energy security. He had also called on the Sindh government to resolve its reservations through dialogue.
The proposed dam, to be built on the Indus River in Punjab’s Mianwali district, has remained one of the most controversial water projects in Pakistan, drawing consistent opposition from Sindh and KP over concerns of water distribution and provincial rights.
