LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was transferred from jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Saturday after experiencing chest pain.
According to his legal counsel, Qureshi reported discomfort following Fajr prayers. Jail medical staff conducted an initial examination before referring him to the hospital for further assessment. He is currently undergoing a series of diagnostic tests to evaluate his condition. His family has been informed and continues to receive updates on his health status.
This development follows Qureshi's recent indictment in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case, alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and 14 other PTI leaders. The case was heard in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi.
While the Islamabad High Court recently acquitted both Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the high-profile cipher case, Qureshi remains in custody due to his alleged involvement in the May 9 incidents.
Previously, in January last year, Imran Khan and Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years each in the cipher case. Despite the acquittal, their release is unlikely as Imran continues to serve sentences in other cases, and Qureshi faces further legal proceedings.
