KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a range of events to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah revealing plans to award prizes for the best-decorated shops, vehicles, and buildings across the province.
During a conference in Karachi on Wednesday, CM Shah emphasized that the city would be central to the celebrations and encouraged public participation. A variety of events are planned, including concerts in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, a poetry night, a rickshaw rally, the creation of a human flag, and several competitions open to the public.
He also mentioned upcoming vintage car and heavy bike rallies, fairs for women, and painting contests, all aimed at boosting public engagement. The Culture Department has been instructed to organize singing competitions, while the annual Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Mela, scheduled from August 9 to 11, will be aligned with the Independence Day spirit.
CM Shah directed the Inspector General of Police and DIG Traffic to ensure smooth traffic arrangements during these events and asked citizens to remain patient with any inconvenience, emphasizing the importance of national unity. Invitations will be extended to all political parties to take part in the celebrations.
Educational institutions will remain open, but the Education Department will arrange separate programs. Additionally, August 5 will be marked with a protest event against India’s abrogation of Kashmir’s special status. A dedicated event for persons with disabilities will also be held.
