UK lifts ban on Pakistani airlines

ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom has officially lifted its long-standing ban on Pakistani airlines, marking a major step forward in aviation and diplomatic ties. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott confirmed the decision, which removes Pakistan from the UK’s Air Safety List. This update enables Pakistani carriers to apply for operating permissions to the UK, following safety improvements acknowledged by the UK’s Air Safety Committee.

Though Pakistani airlines still require approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority to resume services, the move is seen as a significant milestone, based on independent and technical assessments.

The British High Commission emphasized that this development will boost UK-Pakistan trade—already exceeding £4.7 billion—and strengthen connections between people. High Commissioner Marriott appreciated the efforts of aviation experts from both countries and expressed her eagerness to travel on a Pakistani airline in the future.

She noted that while flights won’t resume immediately, improved air links will reunite families and promote bilateral cooperation. The decision is expected to open new avenues for travel, tourism, and commerce.
