KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced that water levels at Guddu Barrage have begun to recede, while Sukkur Barrage is currently facing peak inflows. Speaking to reporters, he expressed optimism that the pressure at Sukkur would ease by the end of the day.

He noted that floodwaters are now moving downstream toward Kotri Barrage, which is expected to experience peak flow within the next 7 to 10 days. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure smooth passage of water.

Flooding has devastated several areas of Sindh, submerging crops and villages. In Kashmore and Shikarpur, riverine (katcha) areas are underwater, while breaches in Khairpur’s protective embankments have inundated cotton and other crops. In Sukkur, the historic Sadhu Bela temple has been closed after floodwaters covered its steps and boating platform. In Larkana, the Moria Loop Bund overflowed, raising the total number of submerged villages to 30.

The Sindh PDMA confirmed that at least 181,159 people have been affected. Over 528 relief camps and 184 medical camps have been set up, and nearly 471,392 animals have been shifted from vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, Punjab’s PDMA reported that most rivers are flowing at normal levels, though the Sutlej and Chenab recorded low to medium flooding at certain points.
