ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hold a hearing on November 27 to review the Central Power Purchasing Agency’s (CPPA) request for a reduction in electricity prices for October. The proposed cut, if approved, will be applicable to K-Electric consumers as well.
According to the CPPA, power distribution companies received 9.63 billion units of electricity in October, with the per-unit cost calculated at Rs 8.71. Hydel generation accounted for 27.36% of the total power mix, while nuclear energy provided 22.13%. Nuclear power remained the cheapest source at Rs 2.17 per unit.
The data shows 12.76% of electricity was produced using local coal, 4.71% from imported coal, 9.16% from local gas, and 19.72% from imported LNG during the month.
Earlier, NEPRA approved a fuel charges adjustment (FCA) of Rs 0.4812 per kilowatt-hour for September 2025, providing consumers relief in their November bills. This adjustment also applies to K-Electric customers under the tariff rationalisation mechanism approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on August 19, 2025.
