KARACHI: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has officially announced the new date for the intermediate exams, which had previously been postponed. The exams will now begin on May 5, 2025, with approximately 126,000 students expected to participate.
Chairman of the Inter Board, Ghulam Hussain, confirmed the revised schedule and emphasized that the board is taking strict action against cheating. A letter has been sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate WhatsApp groups suspected of facilitating cheating during exams. Both group admins and participants involved in these activities will face consequences.
Hussain also revealed that 36 examination centers across Karachi have been identified as highly sensitive. In response, letters have been dispatched to the relevant authorities to ensure that stringent security measures are implemented at these centers.
The exams were initially scheduled to begin on April 28 but were postponed for two key reasons. First, the process of awarding grace marks to first-year students from the 2024 exams is still ongoing. Second, many examination centers in Karachi are occupied for the ongoing matriculation exams, which will continue until May 8.
Officials explained that the new schedule will ensure a smooth examination process and better availability of examination centers.
This decision follows a report from a fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi, which raised concerns about the administrative procedures of BIEK. As a result, the Sindh Assembly's parliamentary committee conducted a meeting on the issue. Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah confirmed that grace marks would be provided to students who had failed their exams.
