According to a notification posted on the FBR’s official X account, the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, following requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.
The previous deadline was October 15, after the original September 30 date was extended. Tax professionals had sought further relief, citing delays in issuing return forms, heavy online traffic and technical problems with the IRIS tax filing portal.
Meanwhile, official data showed that 6.71 million tax returns had been filed by October 14, compared with 4.99 million during the corresponding period last year, marking an increase of 34.38 per cent.
Tax collected alongside returns reached Rs66.81 billion, up from Rs58.29 billion a year earlier.
The extension gives eligible taxpayers additional time to submit their returns and fulfil their tax obligations.
