Karachi braces for third monsoon spell starting tomorrow

KARACHI: Karachi is expected to be hit by the third spell of monsoon rains starting tomorrow (Friday), with light to moderate showers anticipated under its influence, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD forecasts cloudy and humid weather throughout the day, with chances of light drizzle during the night. The maximum temperature in Karachi is likely to reach 35°C, while the current humidity level stands at 69%. Southwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of 11 km/h.

Beyond Karachi, intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted over the next twelve hours in several northern and upper regions, including Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar Plateau, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Some areas are expected to receive scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.

Central and southern Punjab, along with parts of northeast and southern Balochistan, may also experience isolated rain and wind-thunderstorms.

Morning temperatures recorded in major Pakistani cities include Islamabad and Quetta at 24°C, Lahore at 28°C, Karachi at 30°C, Peshawar at 26°C, Gilgit at 18°C, Murree at 14°C, and Muzaffarabad at 23°C.

Cloudy weather with rain and wind-thundershowers is also forecast for Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramulla in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
