KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory predicting a new spell of rain, wind, and thunderstorms across southern parts of the country. According to the Met Office, these weather conditions are expected to begin on February 16, 2026, affecting major cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Quetta just before the arrival of Ramadan.

A shallow westerly wave is likely to enter western Pakistan on Monday evening. Under this system, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected in various districts of Balochistan, such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah. This weather activity is forecast to persist from the night of February 16 through February 17.

In Sindh, residents should prepare for similar weather shifts on February 17. The PMD identifies Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Sukkur, and Larkana as areas likely to receive rainfall. Along with the precipitation, the Met Office has warned of gusty and dust-raising winds, which may impact visibility and daily commutes in these urban centers.

Rainfall is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Areas such as Waziristan, Bannu, D.I. Khan, and Kurram will likely see light to moderate rain on February 16 and 17. Meanwhile, isolated parts of Southern Punjab, including Multan, D.G. Khan, Bhakkar, and Bahawalpur, may experience light drizzle or dusty winds.

The Met Office has specifically highlighted a hailstorm warning for North Balochistan, D.I. Khan, and D.G. Khan. Farmers in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from potential damage caused by hail and strong winds.

As the westerly wave moves across the country, citizens are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather alerts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department to ensure safety during the wind and thunderstorms.
