ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan may soon see lower bills as power tariffs are expected to decrease. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), requesting a reduction of Rs1.75 per unit under the quarterly adjustment for the fourth quarter of FY 2024-25.

NEPRA is set to conduct a hearing on the CPPA's request today, August 4, 2025. If approved, the proposed reduction could result in collective relief of over Rs53.39 billion for consumers. The adjustment would apply to all state-run distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric, and would be reflected in power bills issued during August, September, and October 2025.

Further relief of up to Rs2.10 per unit may be granted for September through November if additional tariff reductions are sanctioned in the coming months.

In a related statement, K-Electric clarified that it cannot independently alter consumer tariffs. The utility emphasized that all rates, categories, and slab structures are determined by the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Energy’s tariff policy. Any changes to electricity pricing can only be implemented following a formal government notification.
