KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an early warning for expected rain and thunderstorms in Karachi, forecasting unstable weather conditions over the coming days.
According to the Met Office, certain peripheral areas of Karachi may receive showers accompanied by thunder on Monday night or Tuesday. Gusty winds are also expected during rainfall in peripheral areas on Tuesday.
The weather system may intensify, with chances of heavy rainfall in isolated areas, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning. The PMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
Authorities have been alerted to ensure drainage systems are functional to prevent urban flooding. Fishermen have also been cautioned against venturing into the open sea due to rough conditions expected along the Sindh coast.
The warning comes as Karachi braces for its first major pre-monsoon spell of the year, raising concerns over the city's fragile infrastructure and previous experiences with heavy rain-related disruptions.
The PMD will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as needed. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines.
