KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has constituted a judicial commission to investigate the murder of young businessman Mir Raza, with Justice Umar Sial nominated to head the inquiry.
The development came after the Sindh government formally requested the SHC to establish a judicial commission to probe the circumstances surrounding Raza’s killing. Following the request, the Chief Justice of the SHC issued a notification approving the formation of the commission and appointing Justice Umar Sial as its head.
The SHC directorate subsequently informed the Sindh Home Department about the decision through an official letter.
The judicial commission will examine the circumstances and facts surrounding the murder and conduct an inquiry in accordance with its approved Terms of Reference (TORs).
The Sindh government had earlier approved the formation of the commission to investigate the killing of the young businessman. The summary seeking approval for the commission was circulated among members of the Sindh cabinet, who also endorsed the Terms of Reference for the proposed inquiry.
The murder case was initially registered at Ferozabad Police Station, where the investigation was launched following the incident.
However, the formation of the judicial commission has faced opposition from Mir Raza’s family. The family approached the Sindh High Court and filed a petition challenging the commission.
The SHC heard the petition on Monday and issued notices to all relevant parties, directing them to submit their responses by August 31.
The court’s latest proceedings have added a legal dimension to the ongoing investigation into Raza’s murder. The responses from the concerned parties are expected to help the court determine the next course of action regarding the family’s objections to the judicial commission.
The commission’s inquiry is expected to focus on establishing the facts and circumstances surrounding the murder while considering the concerns raised by the victim’s family and the findings of the existing police investigation.
