KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday extended for three more days the physical remand of Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, younger brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, along with other accused in a case involving the alleged assault on a government employee.
Farhan and his co-accused were produced before the court, which ordered their reappearance on August 30 and instructed the investigating officer to submit a progress report at the next hearing. The case was registered at Ferozabad Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act and additional penal sections.
During the hearing, Advocate Waqar Abbasi filed the power of attorney on behalf of the accused, while the prosecution requested more remand time. However, the judge expressed displeasure over the slow investigation, questioning the lack of witness statements and asking the officer, “What will you do with more remand? So far you have done nothing.”
The FIR was lodged by government employee Hafiz Sohail, who claimed he was attacked on August 22 while supervising fibre cable work near Sharae Faisal. Farhan, named along with five associates under charges of attempted murder and terrorism, surrendered voluntarily, denying assault and asserting he had only objected to unauthorised digging.
