ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new initiative for citizens who voluntarily donate their organs, offering them a lifetime ID card with a special green heart symbol. The initiative aims to recognize and honor individuals who donate their organs on humanitarian grounds. Citizens aged 18 and above, registered with the relevant donor authorities, can visit any NADRA office to obtain their updated smart ID card or NICOP featuring this unique mark. Applications can also be submitted through the Pak-ID mobile app.

In a separate development, NADRA has partnered with provincial governments to modernize civil documentation by introducing a digital birth and death registration system in hospitals and healthcare centers across Pakistan. This move is part of the Uraan Pakistan program, which focuses on leveraging technology for improved governance and economic growth. The system will enhance the tracking and recording of life events, in line with the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework and in collaboration with the World Bank.

Moreover, NADRA has taken steps to simplify the registration process for first-time applicants, offering free national ID card issuance. This aligns with NADRA’s ongoing efforts to enhance its services and digitize Pakistan’s civil documentation.

Earlier, NADRA also upgraded its ID card system, introducing a non-chip National ID card with additional smart features aimed at improving security and accessibility.
