Veteran actor Nauman Ijaz, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry for over three decades, is known for his candid and often controversial views on societal issues. As Independence Day approaches, he has once again sparked discussion by addressing the disillusionment of Pakistan’s youth.
He observed that while media outlets turn their logos green, government institutions hold celebratory events, and patriotic songs are released, the younger generation—the true hope of the nation—has increasingly lost faith in their homeland. According to him, children who once passionately celebrated 14 August have grown up to realize that the system offers little in return. Genuine talent and education often go unrewarded, while a select few in power continue to dominate, prompting many to seek opportunities abroad.
As a father of three young men, Nauman Ijaz has witnessed firsthand how enthusiasm for national celebrations has faded. Instead, he now sees young people queuing for visas, driven away by corruption, lack of merit, and bleak prospects.
Social media users resonated with his views, sharing similar sentiments. One wrote, “I used to celebrate 14 August like Eid, now I just want to leave.” Another commented, “I was from that generation—now I am hopeless.”
