ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to present the Pakistan Budget 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 12, following a brief delay in the budget schedule. The development comes after consultations between key political stakeholders and the completion of necessary procedural requirements ahead of the federal budget announcement.
According to official details, separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate have been summoned, while the federal budget 2026-27 will now be unveiled before Parliament on June 12. The budget was originally scheduled to be presented on June 10, but reports suggest that discussions between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) contributed to the revised timetable.
Government sources indicated that the Pakistan Economic Survey, an important document outlining the country's economic performance over the past fiscal year, is yet to be presented. In addition, a federal cabinet meeting is required to approve budget proposals before they can be formally tabled in Parliament.
Officials said the government intends to accelerate the budget process once the proposals receive cabinet approval. The parliamentary debate on the federal budget is expected to be shorter than usual, allowing lawmakers to complete the legislative process within a limited timeframe.
The government is aiming to secure parliamentary approval for the Budget 2026-27 before the observance of the 9th and 10th of Muharram. Authorities believe that a compressed schedule will help ensure that all constitutional and legislative requirements are fulfilled without disruption during the religious observances.
The latest development follows recent discussions between the government and the PPP regarding budget proposals. The PPP had sought additional time to review key recommendations and fiscal measures before extending its support. Sources familiar with the negotiations said both sides have made progress toward a broader understanding on budget-related matters.
Economic analysts and business stakeholders are closely watching the upcoming federal budget, which is expected to include measures related to taxation, economic growth, development spending, inflation management, and investment promotion. The budget is also anticipated to address challenges facing Pakistan’s economy while outlining the government's fiscal priorities for the next financial year.
An official announcement regarding the revised budget timetable and final cabinet approvals is expected ahead of the budget presentation in Parliament on June 12.
