ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again extended an invitation to the opposition for dialogue, emphasizing the need for political unity to ensure Pakistan’s stability, prosperity, and long-term development. Addressing the National Assembly on Saturday, the prime minister urged all political parties to move beyond differences and work collectively for the country's future.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of Parliament as the representative institution of all four provinces, describing it as the common house of the federation. He stressed that political disagreements should not overshadow national interests and reiterated that opposition members are political rivals, not enemies.

Recalling his time as opposition leader, the prime minister said he had repeatedly proposed a Charter of Economy aimed at creating consensus on key economic reforms. According to him, the proposal was not accepted at the time, but he remains committed to fostering cooperation on economic and national issues. He invited opposition leaders to engage in constructive dialogue, stating that it is never too late to work together for Pakistan’s progress.

The prime minister underscored that Pakistan’s development depends on unity, mutual respect, and sincere efforts from all political stakeholders. He noted that a strong and stable Pakistan benefits every citizen and political party alike.

During his speech, Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Pakistan’s security forces, particularly the 22 Pakistan Army personnel who were martyred in a recent helicopter crash in Muzaffarabad. He praised the sacrifices made by soldiers in the fight against terrorism and stressed the importance of honoring the nation’s martyrs.

Addressing security concerns, the premier defended the fencing of Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, calling it a necessary step for national security. He also pointed to ongoing counterterrorism efforts, particularly in Balochistan, where security forces continue operations against militant groups.

Highlighting provincial development, the prime minister reaffirmed that all provinces have equal rights over their natural resources. Referring to the Reko Diq project, he described the agreement as a model of inclusive development achieved with the consent of Balochistan’s stakeholders.

Shehbaz Sharif also noted that Balochistan benefited significantly under the 2010 NFC Award and announced major investments, including Rs75 billion for solar panels for farmers and nearly Rs300 billion for the Gwadar-Chaman dual carriageway project. He concluded by urging all national and political forces to unite for Pakistan’s stability, economic growth, and prosperous future.
