GILGIT: Polling for the general elections on 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly concluded peacefully on Sunday, marking the end of an intense electoral contest across the region. With voting now completed, attention has shifted to the counting process as unofficial results begin to emerge from various constituencies.

Voting started in the morning and continued without interruption until 5pm. Election officials reported that polling activities remained orderly in most areas, while security arrangements were put in place to ensure a smooth voting process throughout the day.

According to official figures, a total of 958,480 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. Voters exercised their democratic right at polling stations established across the mountainous region, participating in what is being viewed as a significant political event for the future of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The electoral race witnessed strong participation from political parties as well as independent candidates. More than 400 candidates entered the contest, with 403 contenders competing for the 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The large number of candidates highlighted the growing political engagement and public interest in the region’s democratic process.

Political analysts expect a closely fought contest among major parties, particularly the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Both parties conducted active election campaigns and expressed confidence in securing a strong mandate from voters. Independent candidates and smaller political groups have also played a significant role in several constituencies, making the outcome difficult to predict.

As unofficial election results continue to arrive, political observers are closely monitoring trends that could shape the composition of the next Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The results are expected to influence future governance, development projects, infrastructure initiatives, and policy decisions in the strategically important region.

The Gilgit-Baltistan elections are being closely followed across Pakistan, with citizens eager to learn which party will emerge as the leading political force. Election authorities are expected to release official results after the completion of vote counting and verification procedures.

The conclusion of polling represents another important milestone in Pakistan’s democratic journey, while the final outcome of the GB elections 2026 is expected to define the political landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan for the coming years.
