KARACHI: The Russian House in Karachi commemorated Russia Day with a heartfelt tribute to media professionals and a powerful photo exhibition titled “Died for the Truth.” The annual celebration honors the importance of journalism and truth-telling, especially in conflict zones.

As part of the observance, the Russian House hosted an award ceremony for local journalists under the theme “About Russia – Honestly!” Over 60 representatives from various media outlets across Pakistan attended the event and were recognized with special tokens of appreciation.

The centerpiece of the day was the opening of the “Died for the Truth” photo exhibition, showcasing portraits of 61 journalists who lost their lives covering the conflict in Donbass since 2014. The exhibition includes journalists not only from Russia but also from Ukraine, Europe, and the United States, underscoring the global cost of reporting in war zones. The photographs were curated by frontline journalists, many of whom have worked directly in conflict areas.

Director of the Russian House, Ruslan M. Prokhorov, emphasized the exhibition's purpose: “We want the people of Pakistan to know the truth—about the roots of the conflict and the brutal targeting of journalists who dared to report it.”

The celebrations continued on Friday, June 13, with a cultural evening featuring performances by Pakistani students singing in both Russian and Urdu. The evening concluded with a speech from Prokhorov, thanking the media community for its continued efforts, followed by a warm dinner attended by journalists from across Pakistan.

The event highlighted not only the shared commitment to truth but also the spirit of cultural exchange between Russia and Pakistan.
