ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar today inaugurated Pakistan’s first Google Chromebook Assembly Line, calling it a “defining moment” in the country’s digital transformation journey.
Speaking at the event titled “Building the Digital Future, Together,” Dar said local production of Chromebooks will make access to digital tools more affordable and inclusive, particularly for students. “This initiative marks a milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation,” he said, highlighting Google’s plans to establish a local presence and train 100,000 developers in artificial intelligence (AI) under a new partnership with the government.
Dar noted that the initiative will create jobs, develop supply chains, and enhance Pakistan’s potential for technology exports. He also assured Google of government support, saying Pakistan is rapidly positioning itself as a key digital player in the region.
Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the project supports the *Digital Nation Vision* and aims to strengthen both hardware manufacturing and software development, empowering youth with global digital skills.
Defence Production Minister Raza Hayat Harraj credited the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) for establishing the assembly line, emphasizing its industrial and economic impact.
Google Pakistan Country Director Farhan Qureshi said the company is “deepening investments in people, skills, and innovation” to build an inclusive digital economy.
The Chromebook Assembly Line, set up at NRTC Haripur, will accelerate local tech manufacturing and aligns with the Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan and AI Policy objectives.
