KARACHI: A major fire broke out on Sunday in the Landhi Export Processing Zone, resulting in the complete destruction of three factories and injuries to at least five individuals, including firefighters and rescue personnel.

Officials reported that the blaze initially started in a cosmetics manufacturing facility and quickly spread to nearby units due to the presence of flammable substances, leading to extensive damage.

Emergency response teams, including Rescue 1122 and other firefighting units, arrived promptly after the fire was reported in the early hours of the morning. Despite swift action, the flames rapidly engulfed neighboring structures.

Over 20 fire tenders were deployed to combat the intense blaze. The firefighting operation remains ongoing as teams continue efforts to bring the situation under control.

Five injured individuals were provided immediate medical attention and shifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities have declared three of the affected factories structurally unsafe due to the damage sustained, while a fourth factory also suffered partial impact.

The incident has raised concerns over fire safety measures in the industrial zone, especially where hazardous materials are in use or storage.
