KARACHI: MQM-P senior leader and Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal on Sunday alleged that the founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was behind the murder of senior MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq and described the killing as a so-called “birthday gift.” Dr Imran Farooq was stabbed to death outside his residence in London in September 2010.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi alongside party leaders, Kamal claimed that scenes were deliberately staged around the body and accused the MQM founder of dramatic conduct following the incident. He further alleged that a large sum of money was recovered from the founder’s residence and that millions of pounds were collected to arrange the transfer of Imran Farooq’s body to Pakistan.

Kamal demanded the arrest of those he described as the real culprits and criticized what he termed a fabricated narrative involving the victim’s widow. He also accused the MQM founder of maintaining long-term foreign links and prioritizing personal power over national interests.
